LIDS ARE ONE WAY THE RULE OF KEEPING MATERIALS SEPARATE APPLIES. IT ALSO AFFECTS OTHER WAYS OF RECYCLING, TOO.

RULE #3: You can’t recycle two types of material together. What does that mean?? It means that containers and their tops need to be the same.

Examples: Putting a plastic lid on a plastic container is fine. How about a glass container with a metal lid or plastic top? No. A metal can with a metal lid? Yes.

Let’s picture this:

  • Plastic Container with plastic top - Yes

  • Glass Jar with metal or plastic lid - No

  • Metal Can with metal top - Perfect! Just toss clean lids in your bin
