How to properly recycle other types of plastic

Let’ review what we covered last week, which was

RULE # 1: Your plastic bags and wrap don’t go in your recycling bin, you need to take them to a store, which are most box stores and grocery chains.

We forgot to tell you that RULE # 3, which you will learn more about next, says that materials must be separated to be accepted for recycling.

In the case of soft plastic, the paper labels on bags and wraps must be removed. The ones put on all plastic bubble mailers from Amazon, for example, are very easy to peel off.

Labels stuck on plastic wrap are difficult to remove, so just cut them out with a scissors. Sticky paper can’t be recycled, so they should go in your trash to break down, which we will talk about in a bit. Don’t wad them into a ball, so they will break down faster.

RULE # 2: To recycle other types of plastic, first look for a the triangular symbol on the bottom that DOES NOT have a number inside of it. If it does, check to see if your local recycling center takes it.
